Directions

1. Cook the spaghetti:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 1 package (375–450 g) of spaghetti and cook according to the package directions until tender. Drain the spaghetti and set aside.

2. Cook the onion and garlic:
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 small diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes, until softened. Add 2–3 cloves of minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring so the garlic doesn’t burn.

3. Brown the beef:
Add 1 lb (450 g) ground beef to the onion and garlic. Cook until the beef is completely browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if needed.

4. Season the beef:
Add 1 tsp Italian seasoning, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together and cook for about 1 minute so the seasonings blend into the beef.

5. Make the sauce:
Pour in 1 jar (650–700 mL) pasta sauce and stir everything together. Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste the sauce and, if it’s a little too acidic, stir in up to 1 tsp sugar.

6. Serve:
Place the cooked spaghetti onto your plates and spoon plenty of the beef, onion, garlic, and tomato sauce over the noodles. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. You can also add shredded mozzarella while the sauce is hot so it gets melty.
